Epic Battle: Juicing vs. Blending

The truth is that juicing and blending are great ways to intake nutrients from fruits and vegetables.

Let’s look at the advantages and the disadvantages that will help you decide.

Juicing

Juicing is the process of separating non-digestible fiber juice from fruits and vegetables. The pulp fibers are discarded.

Juicers come in many forms but can be divided into masticating and centrifugal juicers.

Slow Juicers

These are also called masticating or cold squeeze juicers.

They use one or two gears/augers positioned horizontally or vertically, crush the raw materials into small pieces, and then push them through a sieve.

The main advantage of masticating juicers is the quality of the juice, the easy cleaning, and the ability to squeeze greens more effectively. The biggest drawback is the higher cost and the fact that juicing takes a little longer.

High-speed Juicers

These are also called centrifugal juicers. They are marketed as classic juicers that have been out there for many years.

These machines use a high rotation speed, and the knife cuts the raw material and then pushes the juice through the perforated sieves.

The main advantage of centrifugal juicers is their lower cost and rapid pace.

On the other hand, they create foam and juices of slightly lower nutritional value, which is inevitable at such a high rpm with the increased heating. Finally, they can be demanding cleaning.

Blending

Unlike juicing, blending uses whole fruits or vegetables. Typically, blenders make a smoothie, which ideally contains a 3: 1 vegetable to fruit ratio of the product and enough liquid to produce a fluid-like consistency.

You can buy a blender from $50 to over $500. The higher price range has a more powerful engine, stiffer construction, and better performance.

More power does not necessarily mean better performance because the design of the pan and the type of knives significantly impact the blending quality.

Also, some blenders have a suppressor that can be used to achieve a better effect.

Juicing vs. Blending Machines Comparison

Here is a list of the significant advantages and disadvantages of both choices. Generally speaking, the biggest problem of juicing is removing all the fibers that help with digestion.

Critics also point out that juices contain sugar, but this depends on the recipe. You are essentially holding power.

The most common criticism of blending is that smoothies can be tougher to consume because they have a fuller taste due to their many fibers. For some, this is an advantage, especially if they want to reduce their weight.

However, during blending, oxidation will destroy a lot of the nutrients. You can also get a gadget that uses vacuum blending, a new technique that ensures you get the most out of what you buy.

Juicing vs. Blending – Frequently Asked Questions

Juicing Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Juices are more nutritious
  • Juices provide fast energy and nutrient intake
  • Juicing is much more acceptable for root vegetables (they don’t do well in blenders)
  • Minimal oxidation in masticating juicers (cold squeezing)
  • Cold-squeezed juice can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours

Cons:

  • It takes more raw material to get one glass of juice
  • Juicers may be challenging to clean
  • The liquid is richer in calories and sugar
  • The juice contains no indigestible fibers (but contains digestible fibers)

Blending Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Smoothies help with dieting because they make us full quickly
  • Many versatile ingredients can be added to a smoothie
  • Versatility – A blender can do more than just a smoothie
  • Speed – Blending is faster than squeezing

Cons:

  • Higher blending speed causes nutrient loss through oxidation (except in vacuum blenders)
  • Blenders are much noisier than juicers.
  • Smoothies can be harder to drink without the added liquid
  • Specific raw materials are not suitable for blending

Juicing vs. Blending – Which One is Better?

As you can see from the list, both have pros and cons. We think both juicing and blending are good and complement each other perfectly.

A smoothie is a quick and satisfying meal replacement, while juice is an excellent “natural energy drink” that allows you to eat quickly later.

Make sure to drink on an empty stomach, as this is much easier to digest. Due to the absence of non-digestible fibers, the juice is rapidly absorbed into the digestive system.

The best time to consume juice is at least 20 minutes before or about 2 hours after eating. If the stomach is complete, the liquid will be mixed with the food, and fermentation will begin. You can drink smoothies at any given time.

Choosing between juicing and blending is like choosing between a visit to Tahiti or Bali. You will be happier if you choose both!

Jack Cholach
My name is Jack, and I love Juicing. Juice cleansing has been a part of my life since I was 14 years old. When I started, it helped me with everything from detoxing to gaining weight in the right places, but now that it's an everyday routine for me, juice cleanse have become more about how they make me feel while doing them than any other benefit or result. The most remarkable thing about juicing? You can get so many different flavors! My favorite ones are carrot-apple-ginger and apple-spinach because they taste delicious too! If you're interested in trying your first juice cleanse, then click here for some tips on what to do before starting one if you've never done anything like this before.
